The first M. zhongdianensis I have grown from seed to flowering, this from the 19/57 Seed Exchange. I have three other plants about to flower. Here in North Yorks my spiny mecs usually flower when very small, typically about 5 cm tall whether grown in the ground or in tall pots. This one was planted out about 3 weeks ago and is 10 cm tall, hopefully it will grow taller as more buds open. The flower is patchy in colour with some parts almost white.
